Appealing Assessment Notices
All property owners in the City of Wetaskiwin receive a property assessment notice in March every year. While not a bill, your assessment is used to calculate property taxes once rates are established in May.
Step 1: Review Your Assessment Notice
After receiving your assessment notice, review the details listed carefully. The value on your notice should reflect the value of the land and any improvements as of June 30 the year prior.
Step 2: Discuss Your Concern
If you disagree with the assessment on your property, or if any information is incorrect, please contact Accurate Assessment Group at (877) 438-2305. For matters that cannot be resolved over the telephone, appointments can be made to meet with an assessor in person.
An assessor should be contacted if you disagree with the assessed amount, assessment sub-class, type of improvement, or, if there is incorrect information on the notice, including:
- The description of a property or business
- The name and mailing address of an assessed person or taxpayer
- School support
- Whether the property is assessable
- If the property or business is exempt from taxation under Part 10
The Assessor will discuss how the assessment for your property was calculated. If you require additional information a request can be made in writing to the Assessor, and they will provide you with additional information detailing how your assessment was prepared in accordance with provincial requirements.
Step 3: File an Appeal
If you are still concerned after speaking with an assessor, you may file an appeal of the assessed value. The required assessment appeal forms are available at City Hall (4705 50 Avenue, Wetaskiwin).
To have your appeal heard by the Assessment Review Board, the forms and fee must be submitted to the Assessment Review Board Clerk either in person at City Hall or mailed to:
