Diversity and Inclusion Task Force

The City of Wetaskiwin is looking for candidates to join its Diversity and Inclusion Task Force. This group will provide the City with guidance in the development of policies that promote fairness, mutual respect, and an undoubted sense of inclusion among the diverse individuals, communities and groups that call Wetaskiwin home.

The Diversity and Inclusion Task Force will serve as a forum of discussion to developing and implementing initiatives to drive awareness and education on creating a welcoming and inclusive community for all—regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, age, income level, or language. We are striving to create a welcoming and inclusive municipality in which all citizens can feel included and fully able to participate in their community.
- Goal #1 – Decrease the number of incidents of hate crimes and discrimination in the community.
- Goal #2 – Increase awareness of the importance of diversity and the community’s intent to become more inclusive.
- Goal #3 – Increase participation by residents, the business community and non-profit organizations to promote diversity and inclusion in our community.
- Goal #4 - Encourage and develop a safe and welcoming environment for everyone through targeted approaches developed by the task force.
The task force will consist of up to fifteen (15) community members who will be reflective of Wetaskiwin's diversity – ethno-cultural, national, racial, religious or other. To that end, as part of the application process, applicants will be asked to list those groups with which they identify. Appointed members will serve on this task force for 13 months.
