Curbside Recycling Pickup

Update: Curbside Recycling will start on Monday, October 5, instead of Thursday, October 1, as previously advertised.

Starting October 5, 2026, Wetaskiwin will be receiving new curbside recycling services. This new service will be managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit that is leading Alberta’s transition to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

EPR shifts the financial and operational responsibility for recycling programs to producers, those that produce and supply packaging and paper materials to residents. This includes the familiar brands and retailers Albertans interact with every day. This new approach to recycling means municipalities and taxpayers will no longer pay for recycling services, as this cost will now be paid by producers.

Soon you will be able to recycle more materials like glass containers, foam packaging, flexible and rigid plastic, cardboard and paper, and metal containers and packaging right at your curb or at your local depot.

The transition will introduce a more convenient, consistent, and effective recycling program across the province, benefiting not only people but also the province.

How should I set out my recycling bags for collection?
  • Use see-through (clear or blue) bags for recycling.
  • Recycling bags should not exceed 20 kg (44 lb) or 184 L.
  • Black garbage bags or oqaque/non-see-through bags cannot be used for recycling.
  • During winter conditions, place your bags on a flat surface clear of any snow and ice.
  • Cardboard boxes that cannot fit inside your blue bag should be flattened and placed under your blue bag or in another box no larger than 60 cm x 60 cm (24" x 24").
  • Maintain at least one metre (3 feet) between your recycling bags, carts, vehicles, and other obstacles.
