All records of the City are subject to the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA). The City cannot assure anyone that a particular record can be kept confidential under ATIA or POPA.

Privacy Management Program

What is a Privacy Management Program

A Privacy Management Program (PMP) is a legislated, documented framework of policies, procedures, and practical tools established by municipalities to ensure compliance with Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and Access to Information Act (ATIA). The PMP supports the City’s dual responsibility to provide lawful access to records while protecting the personal information entrusted to it by residents, businesses, and employees.

Protection of Privacy

Privacy in the City is regulated by the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA). The Act ensures that personal information is managed and protected appropriately. It establishes mandatory privacy-protection practices for public bodies and encourages the design of programs and services that prioritize privacy protection.

Reporting a Privacy Incident

A privacy incident happens when personal information is potentially collected, accessed, used, shared or destroyed without authorization. If you believe that a City business area or employee has inappropriately collected, used or disclosed your or someone else’s personal information, please contact the ATIA Coordinator at legislative@wetaskiwin.ca.
