Welcoming Week is Wetaskiwin's invitation to connect with nine days of free events that bring newcomers and longtime residents together to celebrate what makes this the city we share. Whether you've lived here for decades or just unpacked your last box, we encourage you to come out, meet new friends and enjoy Wetaskiwin.

About Welcoming Week

Welcoming Week is part of a global movement, marked by communities around the world each September. At its heart it's about belonging, building understanding between newcomers and longtime residents, and reminding all of us that Wetaskiwin is stronger when everyone feels at home here.

From September 9 to 17, you'll find something for every age and interest: family activities, cultural workshops and celebrations, open houses, and dozens of chances to meet your neighbours.

Parade of Programs & City Open House — Wednesday, September 9

Welcoming Week opens with a free community BBQ, Parade of Programs and City Open House at Co-op Place Rec Hall. Meet local organizations, programs and services in one room, find out what is on offer in Wetaskiwin, and pick up a free EIR Raceway ticket while they last...only 150 are available.

The FCSS Winter Wear & Clothing Drive will collecting donations at their booth.

Taste of Wetaskiwin - September 11

Sample the best bites from local kitchens, raise a glass to Alberta's craft breweries, wineries and distilleries, and enjoy live music all night. Add hands-on art, a flower bar, a selfie station and hourly draws, and you've got the one night this fall you won't want to miss. Come find your WIN.

DFW is hosting a Career Fair & Business Expo for Welcoming Week on Thursday, September 17, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Co-op Place Rec Hall.
Stop by to see who's hiring, connect with local employers, and learn about career paths you may not have considered. Whether you're job hunting or just exploring your options, it's worth the visit.

Downtown Games & Sidewalk Sale

Thursday, September 17 | 3PM-7PM

Close out Welcoming Week with a downtown celebration you won't want to miss! Shop local and support the businesses that make our community special, with in-store specials, sidewalk deals, and restaurant patios open and ready to serve.
There's fun for the whole family, too: outdoor games, facepainting, a bouncy castle, a stilt walking workshop, a big balloon show, and more happening all afternoon. Wander the sidewalks, grab a bite, play a game, and enjoy everything downtown has to offer.
Bring your friends, bring the family, and we'll see you downtown!

Opening day. Welcoming Week starts with a free community BBQ and dozens of local organizations under one roof.

Wetaskiwin Farmers’ Market — Petting Zoo & Family Fun  ·  3:00 – 6:00 p.m.  ·  Ag Society, Highway 13

The regular market with animals and family activities added.

Parade of Programs & City Open House  ·  5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  ·  Co-op Place Rec Hall

Free community BBQ. Meet dozens of local programs and services in one room, tour City Hall, and pick up a free EIR Raceway pass for Saturday’s races — only 150 available, so come early and hang on to it.

 Also running all week: Library Story Walk at the Public Library, and the FCSS Winter Wear & Clothing Drive — bring donations to the Parade of Programs tonight or to FCSS any day this week.

An afternoon and evening day. Three things to do once school and work are done.

50 Avenue closes to traffic for the afternoon. Spandy Andy, a stilt walker and a stilt walking workshop you can try yourself, a bouncy castle, face painting, balloon twisting, downtown games, buskers, and local businesses set up right out on the road.
