Temporary Traffic Calming Curbs
This summer, the City of Wetaskiwin is running a Temporary Traffic Calming Curb Pilot Project. The Traffic Calming Curbs will be placed at the following crosswalks:
- Sacred Heart School Crosswalk
- 52 Avenue and 44 Street Crosswalk
Traffic Calming Curbs are large yellow concrete barriers placed in roadways to slow traffic in specific areas to improve safety for all road users, especially pedestrians and cyclists. Traffic Calming Curbs are designed to be the same height as other roadside curbs, so they do not pose significant danger if struck by a vehicle.
How do they work?
Traffic Calming Curbs improve everyone's safety by narrowing the street, encouraging motorists to travel at lower speeds and increasing yielding and stopping compliance, which results in fewer collisions. When placed at crosswalks, they provide pedestrians with a protected, visible space to wait before crossing and reduce the crossing distance.
