Press Release: Mayor's Access to City Hall
The City recognizes there is ongoing public interest regarding the Mayor’s access to City Hall.
In fulfilling its Occupational Health & Safety obligations as an employer, and in response to the Mayor’s conduct toward City staff, the Mayor’s access to City Hall was restricted. Council was advised of said conduct on January 13, 2026 in a closed session. On January 19, 2026, the City’s Administration implemented restrictions on the Mayor’s access to City Hall. Council was aware of and supported this action.
These measures are administrative in nature and are intended to ensure a safe and respectful workplace. Notwithstanding these measures, there are no material impacts on the Mayor’s ability to carry out his duties.
On May 21, 2026, the Mayor was given the opportunity to immediately return to City Hall, with some conditions. To date, the Mayor has not taken steps to return.
The City is providing this additional clarification in light of recent inquiries but remains bound by its legal obligations under Protection of Privacy Act and the Municipal Government Act and can not comment further on specific details at this time.
