Construction Notice: Temporary Traffic Impacts on 40 Avenue Beginning June 18
Rehabilitation work is set to begin on 40 Avenue from 56 Street to the CPKC Rail Crossing on Thursday, June 18, 2026, resulting in temporary traffic disruptions.
Traffic will be reduced to single lanes in both directions throughout construction. Occasional lane closures and detours will be required as construction progresses.
Motorists and pedestrians are asked to exercise caution in the construction areas and take alternative routes if possible. Please follow all construction signs and be aware of workers in the area.
The estimated completion date for the construction is September 15, 2026, if weather allows.
40 Avenue Rehabilitation
The 40 Avenue rehabilitation project is a preventative maintenance project to improve road infrastructure throughout Wetaskiwin, improve pedestrian connectivity, improve drainage, and reduce flooding by:
- Removing deteriorated road and sidewalk infrastructure and replacing substructures.
- Repaving 40 Avenue to enhance durability and reduce maintenance requirements.
- Integrating stormwater design improvements that will reduce ponding and seasonal damage.
