Council Action Task Summary as of June 11, 2026 The Council Action Task Summary provides an overview of ongoing and recently completed actions Council directed Administration to complete at previous Council Meetings.

Delegation: Annual STARS Update to Council STARS provided their annual update to Council on statistics and new initiatives that are pertinent to the Wetaskiwin community, especially the local hospital and medical professionals.

Audited Financial Statements – Recommendation Update The update addressed the recommendations made by the City’s appointed auditor, Metrix Group LLP, in the 2025 Audited Consolidated Financial Statements and the City’s progress in addressing them. As per the Municipal Government Act (MGA), the City’s financials are audited every year. The Audited Financial Statements for 2025 and previous years can be found at wetaskiwin.ca/finances.

Facility Rental Marketing Update $7,500 was allocated in late 2025 to promote bookable City facilities to increase rental revenue. This report provides an overview of the campaign, the results, and recommendations.

Monthly City Manager Report to Council and the Community The City Manager Report is an ongoing monthly opportunity to update Council and the community on City operations and public events. The monthly report now includes a more robust process for reporting on operating and capital projects.

Council Committee Reports and Attendance The Council Committee Reports and Attendance Report updates the community on the work that Council does outside of Regular Council Meetings.
Council approved the updated mutual aid agreement between the City of Wetaskiwin, Wetaskiwin Rural Fire Protection Zone 2 Society, and the County of Wetaskiwin No 10. The updated agreement ensures effective and efficient fire protection services to the community.
Council directed Administration to develop options for Council Chambers that seat all members of City Council together on the same level and options that upgrade the carpet and technology but retain all current furniture in Council Chambers as is. These options will be brought to the August 14, 2026, Regular Council Meeting.
Council received a presentation from the Yellowhead Regional Library (YRL) that laid out the core services of YRL. YRL is requesting a $0.75 increase per capita to the annual levy contribution ($4.85 to $5.60). Council received the presentation as information and for Administration to bring forward the funding request for consideration during the 2027 operating budget deliberations.
The approved Council Procedural Amending Bylaw separates Committee of the Whole from Regular Council Meetings. Committee of the Whole will now take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m., with the Regular Council Meeting taking place on the same day at 4 p.m.
The Committee of the Whole Meeting will include open microphone, delegations, Council Action Task List, and correspondence. Additionally, the following Council committees will be dissolved and their mandates included in Committee of the Whole:
- Finance and Audit Committee
- Agenda Review Committee
- Community Art Committee
- Community Safety and Well-being Steering Committee
The Committee of the Whole meeting is open to the public, and a recording may be posted to the City’s Official YouTube Channel.
Letter of Support
Council agreed to provide a letter of support to BGC Wetaskiwin in support of becoming a hub for the Kickstand program, which is designed to provide youth with free therapy and support for mental health, substance use, and more.
