Delegations & Staff Reports for Information  

  • Delegation by Wetaskiwin’s Women’s Society 
    The Wetaskiwin Women’s Society gave a presentation to Council about the purpose of the Society and provided updates on past events. 
  • Enforcement Services 2025 Year End Report 
    The Enforcement Services 2025 Year End Report highlights changes in statistics between 2025 and 2024 and provided Council with the opportunity to ask questions. 

  • Fire Services 2025 Annual Report 
    The Wetaskiwin Fire Services 2025 Annual Report highlights changes in statistics between 2025 and 2024 and provided Council with the opportunity to ask questions.

2026 to 2029 Council Strategic Plan 

Strategic Steps Inc., who facilitated the development of Council’s Strategic Plan, presented Council with the finalized 2026 to 2029 Strategic Plan, which is a high-level document that sets Council’s priorities and clear direction for service delivery. 

Council approved the City of Wetaskiwin 2026 to 2029 Council Strategic Plan as amended, removing the potential tactics and a goal specific to the airport that were originally listed in the document among other minor administrative amendments.

Community Grant Program Update

Administration asked Council to amend the Community Grant Policy to lower the amount that groups can apply through the program to benefit more community groups, as the number of applications received is higher than the $50,000 allocated per year. Of the 20 applications received in 2025, 12 of them received funding. 

Council approved a motion to direct Administration to reduce the maximum amount that an organization may apply for through the Community Grant Program from $10,000 to $5,000 per intake.

Bylaw 2104-26 Amending Land Use Bylaw 1804-13 To Create Community Support Service Use  

Council voted to defeat amending Bylaw 2104-26 and the Land Use Bylaw remains unchanged.  

Closed Session

Coming out of closed session City Council approved $22,000 to action a project intended to address or mitigate threats against members of council and administration. More information on this work may be released in the future. 

Governance and Priorities Committee  

Council voted to refer the Governance and Priorities Committee item to the next Planning and Teamwork meeting, which are held after Regular Council Meetings at Wetaskiwin City Hall. These meetings are open to the public.

Personal Devices in Council Chambers – Notice of Motion from March 10, 2026

Council approved a motion to disallow cell phones and personal devices during any meetings of Council regardless of location for both Council and Administration.

Councillor Neilson brought forward for discussion a follow-up to recent announcements of a data centre development and provincial policing in Wetaskiwin. There was no motion resulting from this discussion.
