Council approves 2026 Tax Rate Bylaw
Wednesday, April 29, 2026 (Wetaskiwin, Alberta) - City Council approved a 1.27 per cent municipal tax rate decrease during the Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Regular Council Meeting, which was driven by a substantial increase to assessed property values in the City.
The 2026 Property Tax Bylaw 2107-26 finalizes the municipal tax rates needed to calculate annual property tax amounts, and will generate the $22.23 million in tax revenue to fund City services that the community relies on, which include enforcement and emergency services, recreation, planning and development, parks, trails, roads, and more. There is no anticipated change to the level of service provided by the City.
Assessed property values increased in 2026, which means that the tax rate needed to raise sufficient funds for City services was less, resulting in both the residential and non-residential tax rates decreasing by 1.27 per cent. The rate decrease will impact each property owner differently, depending on their property's 2026 assessed value. A homeowner will pay approximately $1,120 per $100,000 of assessed home value.
The provincial education tax increased by 8 per cent this year. This amount is collected by municipalities on behalf of the Government of Alberta and funds the public and separate school division.
Property owners should receive their tax notices in the mail by May 29, 2026, but may also view their tax notices through Virtual City Hall, where taxes, utilities, and other City invoices can be accessed and paid online.
Property taxes are due by June 30, 2026.
