Current Projects

Engineering projects are approved through the City's Municipal Capital Budget and typically include road repair, sidewalk rehabilitation, and more.

Below is a list of current or upcoming engineering projects, along with information about each project.

The 40 Avenue rehabilitation project is a preventative maintenance project to improve road infrastructure throughout Wetaskiwin, improve pedestrian connectivity, improve drainage, and reduce flooding by:

  • Removing deteriorated road and sidewalk infrastructure and replacing substructures.
  • Repaving 40 Avenue to enhance durability and reduce maintenance requirements.
  • Integrating stormwater design improvements that will reduce ponding and seasonal damage.

Project Start Date: June 18, 2026 (weather-dependent)

Projected End Date: September 15, 2026 (weather-dependent)

Traffic Impacts:

Traffic will be reduced to single lanes in both directions on 40 Avenue from 56 Street to the CPKC Rail Crossing throughout construction. Occasional lane closures and detours will be required as construction progresses.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to exercise caution in construction areas and take alternative routes if possible. Please follow all construction signs and be aware of workers in the area.

The following notice of construction was delivered to residents in close proximity to the project on June 16, 2026:

The Airport Apron II Repaving Project at the Wetaskiwin Regional Airport is estimated to begin in early July and will take approximately four weeks to complete, depending on the weather.

During construction, Apron II will be under total closure via NOTAM, and access through the affected area will not be available for aircraft movements or vehicle traffic.

More information to come.
